VMH Monona Clinic

The Veterans Memorial Hospital Monona Clinic opened on Tuesday, September 12, 2017.   It is open five days a week with two family practice providers serving the patients.  The clinic hosts four full exam rooms, allowing the providers to room patients in two rooms each.  Tentatively, mornings are reserved for acute patients with afternoons reserved for regular check-ups.

The hospital is excited to provide more accessible health care to this population that has always been a very important part of our service area!

Appointments can be made at the new Veterans Memorial Hospital Monona Clinic by calling 563-539-5656.

"Caring for patients is even more special when it's people you known or grown up with. I was born and raised in Northeast Iowa and am happy to be able to give back to the communities that helped shape who I am today," states Krista. "I became a medical provider because I felt a call to make a difference in the lives of others.  I enjoyed working as a critical care nurse, but wanted to advance my education in order to have a greater understanding of the complexities of managing illness in all ages.  I am committed to be an advocate for and provide the best care possible for every patient."

Krista Begalski is originally from the St. Olaf area and attended Central Community High School  in Elkader.  She went on to study nursing at Allen College in Waterloo.  She continued on and achieved her nurse practitioner degree and has been working at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo for the past few years.  Krista and her husband, Eric, and their young son Parker, moved back to the area last fall so Krista could begin practicing family medicine at the Monona Clinic.  Krista is available for appointments Tuesday through Friday at the Monona Clinic.

“After working 28 years in acute care, I felt there was a need for additional providers in this area.  I am compassionate about meeting the healthcare needs of patients of all ages, making sure they get the care they need,” explains Lori.  “Taking the time to listen to patient concerns and allowing them to participate in their health care decisions is crucial. Making sure the patient takes ownership and understands the plan, impacts their wellness.”

“I like helping people, sorting out their problems, and working on health maintenance and wellness,” adds Lori.  “I wanted to join the Veterans Memorial Hospital team because of their positive reputation in the community.  I enjoy coming here. We have really grown just since I started in January and our plan is to continue adding services.”

Lori Vlazny is a new part-time nurse practitioner at the Monona Clinic, who just happens to be Krista’s mom!  She received her RN degree from St. Luke’s and has 28 years of combined RN/OR manager experience. She joined her daughter Krista and went back to school to obtain her nurse practitioner degree.  She and her husband Joe reside in rural Farmersburg and have four other children in addition to Krista, including Andrew, Kelsey, MacKenzie and MacKayla.  Lori is available Monday through Thursday at the Monona Clinic.
