Skilled Care Following Surgery-The Choice is Yours!

Patients who have a surgery or hospitalization at Veterans Memorial Hospital or any other health care facility may qualify to return to Veterans Memorial Hospital for the advantages of skilled care.  With a call from the social worker at that facility, VMH can help make the arrangements for patients to be transferred back here, closer to home for their skilled care.

When Sharon Costello had her first knee replacement at Gundersen Health in LaCrosse, she knew that she would need to go to a skilled care facility following.  Because of the stairs in her home, she would not have been able to go straight there.   So before she even had her surgery, she spoke with the social worker during her pre-operative meeting and requested she be transferred to Veterans Memorial Hospital when it was time for her to be released from Gundersen.  2014SkilledCare

Emergency Treatment of Minors

Whenever an emergency occurs involving a minor, health care providers need the permission of a parent to treat the child.  If a parent can not be reached, written consent is required before the child can receive emergency medical treatment.  However, if a physician feels immediate treatment is necessary to prevent death or serious injury, treatment will be given. Be Aware of Ticks

It’s great to get out and enjoy the outdoors here in Allamakee County and Clayton counties, but remember to be vigilant about checking yourself and others with you for ticks. Examine your skin as best you can and use a hand held mirror if available. Fine toothed combs can also be used in helping to check your scalp. “ I’d Like to Check You for Ticks”, isn’t just the catchy title to a country song, but a good idea to have someone else check the areas you can’t easily see.
